About Narrative Jewelry:

I have always loved jewelry's capacity for story telling and expression. Sometimes the figures in my jewelry are taken directly from a myth, fairytale or opera, and other times they are of my own invention. When I choose a mythic theme, it is usually because I relate to a character trait or event in the story. These pieces often revolve around fear, loss, character flaws or regret, although I see the work as a way to transform these worries into productive rumination.

Whether it’s Pandora being unable to resist the temptation of opening the jar or the shortsighted vindictiveness of the Queen of the Night, I find the flaws compelling. I typically use genteel imagery as a foil to the heaviness of the subject matter... it is jewelry after all, and I like it to be beautiful. It is my hope, however, that upon reflection, the work can be read on the many levels I consider when I am making it.
