Textile Design

I began designing textiles in 2018 around the time I started teaching myself how to sew. These are skills I’ve always been interested in but my wholehearted pursuit of jewelry and metalsmithing and then writing CAST didn’t allow time for many new areas of exploration.

When I began sewing, I had a hard time finding fabrics I liked with prints that were the right scale so when I discovered that I could design my own, I got very excited. I’ve been able to create a wide range of fabric designs for everything from pajama pants to quilts. I especially love creating prints using photos I’ve taken. I manipulate them in Photoshop to build a seamless repeating pattern at the perfect scale for what I’m making.

When I began designing textiles, I just wanted fabrics I liked for my own sewing projects, but using Spoonflower, I had the option to make my designs available for sale which has been really fun.

Through Spoonflower, my designs are available as yardage on a wide range of fabric from cotton poplin to velvet, and chiffon to canvas but they’re also available on wallpaper as well as home decor items such as throw pillows, curtains, napkins, duvet covers, and on and on.

It has been really fun seeing the response to my designs and seeing my fabrics used by others in a variety of applications.
