CAST: Art and Objects
Textile Design
My background and education are in the arts. While I can no longer make jewelry, my portfolio is a critical part of my history and who I am.
In addition to running a jewelry business, I co-authored an award winning book with Renée Zettle-Sterling, CAST: Art and Objects Made Using Humanity’s Most Transformational Process (Schiffer Publishing, 2017) about the process of casting. Casting was always my favorite process in the jewelry studio and Renée and I talked for years about the lack of books that really showed what is possible with this expansive and exciting approach to making everything from jewelry to architecture.
These days, my creative activities are more varied. I’ve been designing textiles, learning how to sew, discovering the art of needle felting, and as always, I’m gardening.
My textiles are available on Spoonflower as raw yardage and can be purchased there on a wide range of finished products from wallpaper to throw pillows.
I thought I would be a jeweler for the rest of my life. Losing my career was something I didn’t see coming but it has broadened my creativity, challenged my mind, and stretched my skills in ways I never imagined possible. No matter what, I am always creatively engaged in something. Whether I’m making something for fun or working with a client to help them achieve their own goals, creativity and the pursuit of excellence are core values that run through everything I do.
